On Wednesday 27th April students on the LL.M./M.A. Human Rights in Criminal Justice masters programme, accompanied by Course Director Dr Ger Coffey, visited the Garda College and gained an invaluable insight into the professional training programme for Garda Trainees.
The tour commenced with a very informative lecture by Sergeant John Reynolds Ph.D. in History (UL) on the history of policing in Ireland and the development of An Garda Síochána. Students were then given a tour of the College by Sergeant John Flanagan (Human Rights in Criminal Justice student), Garda Eileen Ryan (Human Rights in Criminal Justice student) and Garda Kevin McCahey (Human Rights in Criminal Justice 2014 graduate) which included the library, museum (set up by Sergeant Reynolds in 2002), gym, sports hall, driver training centre and the shooting range.
Dr Ger Coffey Course Director of the LL.M./M.A. Human Rights in Criminal Justice masters programme thanked the Garda College for accommodating our visit. It was really beneficial for the students to experience the College facilities, ethos, professionalism and dedication of training staff.
