Hope Davidson, PhD candidate delivered a paper on Friday last at the State Accountability for Vulnerability conference hosted by the Socio-Legal Research Centre in DCU. Hope’s paper addressed the unseen vulnerability of the voluntary psychiatric patient in mental health law. The conference itself was very interesting and spanned a great range of topics from migration and asylum, Magdalene laundries, prison and punishment, children in care, LGBT and polygamy, and we heard from the Minister for Justice and Justices Gerard Hogan, Mary Ellen Ring and Ann Power-Forde S.C. formerly of the European Court of Human Rights. Selected papers will be published in an edited collection and Hope is hoping to contribute to that.
