03.04.2018
SLSA Conference

The School of Law was well represented by some of the members of its CCJVS research cluster at the SLSA conference in Bristol last week. Two papers and a poster presentation demonstrated the scope and breadth of the frontier research that is being undertaken by the CCJVS.

Dr Susan Leahy and Dr Margaret Fitzgerald-O’Reilly's paper, "Exploring the Irish Legal System’s Response to Women Who Sexually Abuse and Exploit Children", was delivered by Dr Leahy. Dr Alan Cusack delivered the paper, "Invisible Victims: Exploring the Pre-Trial Treatment of Crime Victims with Intellectual Disabilities in Ireland". Problems surrounding the use of specialist software--which can yield completely conflicting results from exactly the same mixed DNA evidence--were highlighted in Dr Michelle Stevenson's poster presentation, "Trial by computer software?"
