The School of Law was well represented by some of the members of its CCJVS research cluster at the SLSA conference in Bristol last week. Two papers and a poster presentation demonstrated the scope and breadth of the frontier research that is being undertaken by the CCJVS.
Dr Susan Leahy and Dr Margaret Fitzgerald-O’Reilly's paper, "Exploring the Irish Legal System’s Response to Women Who Sexually Abuse and Exploit Children", was delivered by Dr Leahy. Dr Alan Cusack delivered the paper, "Invisible Victims: Exploring the Pre-Trial Treatment of Crime Victims with Intellectual Disabilities in Ireland". Problems surrounding the use of specialist software--which can yield completely conflicting results from exactly the same mixed DNA evidence--were highlighted in Dr Michelle Stevenson's poster presentation, "Trial by computer software?"
