On Thursday June 1st Norah Burns of the School of Law hosted a workshop on Reflection as Learning and Assessment. The event was sponsored by the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education. The half day event was held in Plassey House. The twenty five participants were welcomed by Head of the School of Law Professor Kilcommins. Participants travelled from Limerick Institute of Technology, Carlow Institute of Technology, Tralee Institute of Technology and Trinity College Dublin to attend the workshop on reflective learning practices. The first part of the morning focused on presentations by Norah Burns of the School of Law, Dara O’Dwyer Masters student in Human Rights in Criminal Justice in UL, Emilie Burke fourth year Law Plus student and Tara O’Donnell second year Graduate Entry LLB student. The four presentations looked at the impact which the utilisation of reflective learning practices had on the students in an undergraduate law module. The second part of the event was a workshop led by Dr Jennifer Moon. The participative workshop was designed by Dr Moon. As the international expert on reflective learning Dr Moon has hosted this workshop in a number of academic institutions in various countries. The workshop provided much thoughtful debate and discussion on the learning experiences of students, student-centered learning and reflective learning practices being used in a variety of situations.
