On Monday, 23 April 2018, Dr. Alan Cusack, together with Dr. Conor Hanly (NUIG) and representatives from the Rape Crisis Network Ireland, Inclusion Ireland, CARI, the National Advocacy Service and members of the Bar Council of Ireland met with the Minister for Justice, Charlie Flanagan at the Department of Justice and Equality, 51 St. Stephens Green, Dublin 2.

The meeting was convened by the Minister for Justice following the recent publication of the report, ‘Hearing Every Voice - Towards a New Strategy on Vulnerable Witnesses in Legal Proceedings’ by the Rape Crisis Network Ireland. All those who attended the meeting with the Minister had made a key contribution to this publication.

During the meeting, the Minister Flanagan expressed his interest in pursuing avenues of reform intended to secure the best evidence of vulnerable witnesses in criminal proceedings. Dr. Cusack spoke to the Minister for Justice about Ireland’s existing special measures framework and the need to explore the introduction of new accommodations within Irish courtroom proceedings.
