The School of Law, University of Limerick, invites applications for a Ph.D. Scholarship in any area of Constitutional or Administrative law. The Scholarship, worth €19500, will provide the holder with full-time Ph.D. tuition fees at the School of Law, UL, for three years, along with a yearly stipend of €1,500, subject to satisfactory performance. The scholarship will be awarded to one Ph.D. candidate to undertake a PhD in any area of Constitutional or Administrative law, starting in September 2020.
The holder of this Scholarship will engage in some additional research on Constitutional law, under the direction of the supervisor, Dr Laura Cahillane and may undertake some related teaching duties within the School of Law in addition to pursuing their own doctoral research. The holder of this Scholarship will also be encouraged and assisted to apply for prestigious Irish Research Council Postgraduate funding after their first year of study.

1. CV and Cover letter;
2. Contact details of two academic references;
3. Research proposal (of approximately 1000 words) detailing:
a. The central research question of the proposed doctorate;
b. The proposed methodology;
c. The intended contribution to existing scholarship;
d. A research plan encompassing intended time-frames for the different stages of the research;
e. A short bibliography.
Interviews will be held with shortlisted candidates in June 2020. Candidates will be selected for interview on the basis of the strength of the research proposal submitted and based on their education and/or professional experience. The Scholarship holder should have a degree in law or political science or a similar discipline, awarded at 2.1 or higher. A Masters degree is also desirable.
The successful candidate will subsequently be required to formally apply to the AHSS Postgraduate Research Committee for a place on the PhD programme at the University of Limerick. Payment of the scholarship will be subject to a formal offer of a place being made by the PGR.
