Attractions of architectural and historical note in the city centre include Limerick City Museum, King John’s Castle (1212), St Mary’s Cathedral (1168), The Hunt Museum, Georgian houses and gardens, and the Treaty Sone, on which the Treaty of Limerick was reputedly signed in 1691 at the conclusion of a battle that defined the course of 17th century Europe.
