Dr Norah Burns of the School of Law has been elected to the Board of the National Women's Council. Dr Burns was selected by the Irish Women Lawyer's Association to run for election to the board of the NWC. The NWC has a membership of 180 NGO and civil society member groups, which were eligible to vote in the election. The National Women's Council was established in 1973. It is the leading national representative organisation for women and women’s groups in Ireland. A non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation, the Council seeks to achieve equality for women.
