The Advocate – The All-Ireland Business Law Challenge
The Advocate is the leading third-level competition for students on the island of Ireland to demonstrate, and develop further, their skills as young lawyers and advocates in the commercial business arena. The competition is run by McCann FitzGerald, in association with the Courts Service and the Northern Ireland Courts and Tribunals Service. The format - a team of two students from a university or law college, initially involving a written legal submission, followed by a presentation round at McCann FitzGerald’s Dublin office and then two rounds before a Judge and a partner of McCann FitzGerald - permits undergraduate law and business & law students to compete against the very best of their peers North and South. The aim is to give students an appreciation of the legal issues facing business and corporate clients in today's commercial world and to enable them to argue and articulate how they see matters should be resolved between two commercial parties. The winners gain entry to the summer internship programme at McCann FitzGerald. The winning teams (the winners, the finalists and the best written submission winners) share in a total prize fund of €3,000.
