On Wednesday the 12th of October Professor Geoffrey Shannon, Government Special Rapporteur on Child Protection and Chair of the Adoption Authority of Ireland gave a guest lecture to students in the Child Law module. Professor Shannon talked to the students about the various work, audits and pieces of research that he carries out. He also discussed his work on the Report of the Independent Child Death Review Group, a report on the natural and unnatural deaths of children in the care of the HSE, young people in aftercare and children and young people known to the HSE. Professor Shannon also briefly discussed advancing children’s rights and protection through the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences) Bill. Professor Shannon’s lecture was part of the Child Law Seminar Series organized by Norah Burns of the School of Law and supported by AHSS Faculty Teaching Board funding and the School of Law.
