Eithne McCarthy, Deputy Director of the Competition and Markets Authority in the UK delivered a fascinating guest lecture at the School of Law on Friday. Eithne’s lecture was on Cartels and provided very useful insights into the work of the UK Authority. Eithne clarified the most common methods of enforcement and the Authority’s powers in matters such as ‘dawn raids’. Eithne has a wealth of experience in Competition law , having worked in Allen & Overy and in the European Commission in the Directorate General for Competition. The talk was organised by Sinead Eaton who recently wrote ‘Competition Law in Ireland’, published by Kluwer.
