On Saturday 13th February, Dr Laura Cahillane gave an address to the Citizens’ Assembly on the issue of Article 41.2 of the Constitution. This is the provision commonly known as ‘the woman in the home’ provision. She explained the various options open to the Assembly including repealing it and repeal and replacing it. During the course of the day Dr Cahillane worked with the Citizens and the Advisory team to refine the wording that the Assembly will vote on in April and Dr Cahillane said that she is excited to see the results of that ballot: ‘The new wording that has been devised as a result of the deliberations of the citizens will now offer a real choice between repeal simpliciter or replace and in terms of replacement the choice is between an aspirational replacement and one which would give rise to a cause of action – this is the first time that has been offered as an option so it will be really interesting to see what way the vote goes.’

Dr Cahillane’s work was also quoted afterwards in articles in the Journal.ie, Breakingnews.ie and the Irish Times.
