‘UL Researchers Attend the European Society of Criminology Conference in Sarajevo,
Bosnia & Herzegovina’

On Friday, 31 September 2018, Dr. Alan Cusack, delivered a research paper at the 18th Annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology in the city of Sarajevo. This year’s conference, which took place from 29 August to 1 September 2018, attracted in excess of 1,400 delegates from across the globe who travelled to the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina to engage in four enjoyable and enlightening days of debate and discussion on issues related to field of modern criminology.
Dr. Cusack spoke as part ‘Victimology Working Group Panel’ and the paper he delivered was entitled, ‘Victimological Others: Persons with Intellectual Disabilities as Casualties of Ireland’s Victims’ Rights Movement’. It is hoped that, by engaging with the ‘Victimology Working Group’ in a similar manner in the future, the School of Law will be in a position to foster international links with other victimological research centres around the world.
In addition, the conference provided a useful platform to showcase the wider criminological scholarship that is currently being produced across the entire School of Law. On Thursday, 30 September 2018, Professor Sean Redmond of the School of Law delivered a paper entitled ‘The Impact of Neighbourhood Based Crime Networks on Children’s Offending Behaviour - Greentown: A Case Study’ and on Friday, 31 August 2018, Eoin Guilfoyle delivered a paper entitled ‘Reforming the Community Service Order in Ireland’.
All three papers were well receieved by international audiences.
Dr. Cusack gratefully acknowledges the generous funding provided to him under the AHSS Faculty Research Support Scheme 2018 and through the School of Law at the University of Limerick, without which the delivery of his research paper could not have been possible.
