Endnote

• Endnote is the standard UL software tool for publishing and managing bibliographies, citations and references.
• On a standard UL built machine to install Endnote go to Start\Programs\Install Software\ and right click on Endnote X7 or X8 and select Run as administrator.
• For non-standard UL-owned machines please (Windows and Macs) please contact the Glucksman Library via Ask Us/Tell Us (http://www.ul.ie/library/use-library/ask-us-tell-us) for the installation files and Product Key.

Our licence for EndNote X8 only allows the software to be installed on UL owned computers or Macs, and not on any machine that is personally owned, even if that person is employed by UL.

SPSS

• SPSS is the standard UL software tool for statistical analysis of data.
• On a standard UL built machine to install SPSS go to Start\Programs\Install Software.
• There are two versions of OS, you will need to determine which one you need by knowing the OS version you are running on your machine, please refer to the Install Software Checklist.
• For home or non-standard machine please refer to Software available for home PC
• If you are installing SPSS in a UL supported laptop you need to install the software as if it was a home laptop .  If SPSS is installed on a laptop from Start\Programs\Install Software the program will not run when you have the laptop off the UL network. Refer to Software available for home PC to get SPSS installed on a UL Laptop.​

NVivo

• NVivo is the standard UL software tool for qualitative and mixed methods research.
• On a standard UL built machine to install NVivo go to Start\Programs\Install Software\NVivo 11

MATLAB

• MATLAB is a fourth-generation programming language and numerical analysis environment
• On a standard UL built machine to install SPSS go to Start\Programs\Install Software.
• There are two versions of OS, you will need to determine which one you need by knowing the OS version you are running on your machine, please refer to the Install Software Checklist.​

FortiClient

• Forticlient is the standard VPN client software that is needed to connect to the UL network from home.  You need this software to use Management and Administration software from home (Agresso, CORE)

Minitab

Maple

Maple is a mathematical software tool that combines the world’s most powerful math engine with an interface that makes it extremely to analyse, explore, visualise, and solve mathematical problems.

SPSS

• The latest version of SPSS can be borrowed from short loans in the library. The install instructions are on the CD or the USB key for this software.​

MATLAB

• To install MATLAB on a home PC or UL laptop that you will be using MATLAB outside of the UL network you need to email the servicedesk@ul.ie and request a single license code .  You will get the license code emailed to you and instructions on how to download and install this software.

SSL-VPN

A Virtual Private Network (VPN) is a way to provide a secure connection between remote users and internal network resources. The UL SSL-VPN service can provide RDP access to your internal machine and additional services.

* Please note you may be prompted for your UL username and password, please input ul\firstname.lastname as your username.

• In Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Internet Options and then click on the Security Tab 
• Underneath Trusted Site, click Custom Level 
• In the Security Settings - Trusted Sites Zone, scroll down to User Authentication and select 'Prompt for user name and password' 
• Click OK until you exit.

• For non UL licensed software that you require such as Visio, Adobe Professional etc. please contact Micromail.  Micromail is our preferred software supplier for educational software.

Sometimes you may need to transmit a file larger than the email limits to a colleague in another institution. Some of the free services enable you to do this (such as Live Messenger) but even these services have limits on the size of file you may send (50mb for Live Messenger).  HEAnet (the national network provider) has a service that enables you transmit very large files https://filesender.heanet.ie/
