PhD Students

We currently have a number of PhD students working with us at the ECSH. Their names and PhD titles are as follows:

Anushree Gupta is conducting a socio-legal enquiry entitled, "Hate Crime: An Indian perspective". This research seeks to explore the prevalence and manifestations of hate crime in India, and understand how the criminal justice system currently responds to identity-based hostility. Anushree's research is being funded by the Facuilty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Limerick, and she is co-supervised by Dr Amanda Haynes and Dr Jennifer Schweppe.

Agata Lynch is a sociologist engaged in PhD research entitled, “Towards gender parity in physics at Irish Leaving Certificate”. This research seeks to unpick the macro, meso and micro levels factors that explain the stubbornly persistent gender disparity in the uptake of physics among second level students. Agata has an MA in Gender, Culture and Society and previously qualified as a lawyer before returning to education to train as a sociologist. Agata's research is being funded by the Facuilty of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at the University of Limerick, and she is co-supervised by Dr Amanda Haynes and Dr Jennifer Schweppe.

Ellen Reid is engaging in a study of the experiences of bi+ people in Ireland during and in the aftermath of the Marriage Equality referendum, in a thesis entitled, "What the Yes Lost, and What the Yes Won: A Qualitative Analysis of the Impact of Strategic Essentialism on Bisexualities in Ireland." Ellen's research is being funded by the Department of Sociology at the University of LImerick, and she is co-supervised by Dr Jennifer Schweppe.
